Kia is coming up with a Hyundai Venue rivaling sub-4m SUV and here's how it will look like.

Kia has made a flashy entry to the Indian auto market with its Hyundai Creta based Seltos crossover. The manufacturer received a warm response in the form of 50,000 bookings and the number is rising. Surviving in the Indian market with just one premium product is a tough job, impossible to even think of for other brands. Though we have already talked about Kia’s plan of coming up with a set of premium products, a small sub-4m SUV is also on the cards.

Kia QYI sub-4m suv rendered

Digital Render of the upcoming Kia QYI sub-4m SUV.

The sub-4m SUV from the Kia is codenamed as QYI and has been spotted only on test wearing heavy camo till now. The codename QYI tells a lot about the car, since the Hyundai Venue prototype was named QXi, and moving over to the next alphabet hints that not a lot will be changed from the Venue. The car will adopt Kia’s family design cues and will bring in a lot of differentiation from the Venue. However, a digital render of the car from Cartoq has surfaced on the internet, and it gives a detailed idea of what the car might look like.

The car in the render has a similar silhouette as of the Venue. Kia's signature design elements, however, do a great job differentiating the two. On the front, the rendered car wears the tiger-nose grille that sits in between the headlamps. The headlamps also look a lot like those seen on the Seltos, but with a smaller and single pod to house just one projector beneath the DRLs. The car would not get the multi-beam LED headlamps; instead, it would do with a projector unit. The fog-lamps will also be LED unit, but not the ice-cube ones. On the sides though, the Hyundai Venue hiding under the Kia skins sneaks out to let the masses know about it. And to dilute this fact a little, the car will sit on some snazzy alloy wheels and are also expected to be a size larger than the Venue’s. The story at the rear end is still an unfolded rag in this render, but it is expected to be flashy, in comparison to the Venue.

Moving away from the render to the technical aspects of the QYI, the car is expected to adopt a similar set of engines as the Venue’s. The set of engines will include a 1.2L Kappa petrol engine and a 1.0L T-GDi petrol mill. The 1.5L BS-6 diesel engine could also be a part of the engine package on Kia’s sub-4 metre SUV. To transmit the power from the engine to the wheels, a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT gearbox from the Hyundai Venue will be offered as the option.

With a mission to compete against the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300, Kia will price their upcoming sub-compact SUV aggressively. Kia has already done so with the Seltos, and thus the QYi is expected to start from as low as rupees 6.0 lacs for the base-variant and will top out under 11 lac rupee mark for the top-end trim. Once launched, the sub-4 metre Kia is expected to revive the same success story as that of the Seltos’s for the manufacturer. However, the car can be expected in its concept form at the coming 2020 Auto Expo.
