Kia Seltos Receives Full 5-Star Safety Rating From ANCAP

Australia-spec Kia Seltos has gained the highest rating on the ANCAP safety testing. The test result will be explained in the following.

Kia Seltos has been warmly welcomed in the Indian market. Currently, another good news has come to the South Korean carmaker. Kia Seltos has received a five-star rating in the ANCAP safety test. Kia Seltos was the first car of the South Korean car brand in the Indian market. This car has quickly taken the SUV market by storm. Kia’s plant in India is responsible for the manufacturing of the India-spec Kia Seltos. Besides India, South Korea and China are the two countries where the Kia Seltos is produced. Kia Seltos manufactured in South Korea is also imported to other developed countries like Australia and New Zealand. Currently, the South-Korea-made Kia Seltos is given a full-star rating at the ANCAP safety testing.

ANCAP SAFETY RATING: Kia Seltos (October 2019 - onwards)

The ANCAP test result of the Kia Seltos is revealed, 85% for adult occupancy safety, 83% for child safety. The safety rating for Vulnerable Road User Protection stands at 61% and while safety features rating measures at 70%.

The test reports also noted that during the frontal offset test, the passenger compartment is mostly unaffected except for some intrusion around the acceleration pedal area which can cause damage to the driver’s leg. It is also detailed that the protection for the driver's legs was unstable. In the meanwhile, the protection for driver chest as well as the front passenger’s upper and lower leg is said to be adequate. Other critical body parts are acclaimed to be well-shielded.

Kia Seltos is tested to be highly safe for all passengers

The report of the full-width frontal test also shows an adequate safety rating for driver chest protection while other parts of the body are kept under good protection. However, the pelvis protection does not get a high score. Protection for the rear passenger’s chest is rated as adequate. On the other hands, other critical body parts are reported to get good protection. The result of the side impact test also shows a good rating for all body’s critical parts.

In the Australia market, the Kia Seltos is equipped with six airbags, ABS, AEB (autonomous emergency braking), emergency lane keeping, lane departure warning system, lane keep assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, all of which come as standard features. On the higher-spec variants, Kia Seltos can be loaded with other features like adaptive cruise control, a more advanced version of the AEB system, blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert system. With these safety enhancements, the safety rating, therefore, is increased by 7% and 8% for Vulnerable Road User Protection and Safety Assist.
