The Kia Sonet is likely to launch in the second-half of this month to take on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. It will be available in a wide range of trims and powertrain variants

The Kia Sonet is close to making it to the Indian car market and with every passing day, we seem to be stumbling upon some new detail of the most highly anticipated car of recent times. Recently, we brought to you an allegedly leaked price list of the Hyundai Venue-based model, and today, we have a couple of images of the base-spec Kia Sonet HTE that has been spotted in Hyderabad. It must be mentioned here that the Kia Sonet is being produced at the company's Anantapur-based production facility that is a few hours drive from Hyderabad.

As is pretty well known, the Kia Sonet, akin to the Seltos, will be sold in two style trims - Tech Line and GT Line. The latter will be available only in top-spec GTX+ guise, while the former will be available in 5 sub-levels - HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+. The HTE trim will be available only with 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 100PS 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine options. The base model will feature 15-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers and pole type antenna, along with an all-black interior, fabric upholstery, silver finish on AC vents and a 3.5-inch mono colour MID. The safety kit will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. Meanwhile, the comfort- and convenience-enhancing features on offer will comprise tilt adjustable steering wheel, front power windows, front and rear USB charging ports, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents and front adjustable headrests.

The 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine for the Kia Sonet has been borrowed from the Hyundai Venue and pumps out a maximum power of 83PS and a peak torque of 115Nm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Even the 1.5-litre diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission has been lifted from the Venue. It goes on to output a maximum power of 100PS and a peak torque of 240Nm. It is important to note here that the Sonet shares its underpinnings with the Venue and hence, is built on the same platform. It even receives the high-stung 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor with 7-speed DCT and 6-speed iMT options from the donor model. However, it has a clear advantage over the Venue due to the availability of a diesel-automatic option with a 115PS-250Nm 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine that comes mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This powertrain is sourced from the Seltos. However, the diesel-auto and turbo petrol options won't be available in the base-level, HTE trim.
