Kia Sonet Spied in Indonesia, Global Debut Tomorrow

Kia is gearing up to introduce its all-new sub-4m SUV – Kia Sonet, which has created quite a buzz among the auto enthusiasts in India. Promised to be another hit from Kia, the all-new Kia Sonet will have its world premiere in our country tomorrow. Just like the Seltos, Kia Sonet will be exported to the right-hand-drive countries from India and Indonesia is one of them. Recently, a video surfaced online showing the Kia Sonet on its test mule in Indonesia.

In fact, we’ve already got an idea of what to expect from the Kia Sonet. Teaser images and various spy shots of the Sonet have been emerged around the media channels, giving us a glimpse of what the Sonet has to offer. This latest spy video shows that the Sonet, albeit wearing heavy camouflage, looks identical to the one spotted testing in our country.

The first thing that draws our attention is the Kia Sonet dimensions. As revealed by Kia, the upcoming Sonet will measure 3,995 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width and 1,605 mm in height, giving the SUV a sub-four-metre footprint. Secondly, the wide and butch-looking front end of the Sonet looks quite prominent, attributed to the signature tiger-nose flanked by a set of sleek headlamps.

The test mule in the video is spotted with steel wheels but we do expect the Sonet to come with 17-inch diamond-cut alloys as per the teaser image. The South Korean company has also hinted at the modern rear-end design of the Sonet with some styling elements like a taper rear windscreen, conjoined taillight bar combined with the tall rear bumper and thick skid plate.

As reported earlier by IndianAuto, the Kia Sonet will borrow some features from the Seltos elder brother, which will be first in the segment for a subcompact SUV. The feature list of Kia Sonet may comprise of ventilated seats, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay supports and UVO connected car tech, blind-spot monitoring, auto climate control, power sunroof, wireless charging system, engine start/stop push-button and more. Another spy shot of the Sonet also revealed that the lower variants of the car will get manual air-con along with a 2-DIN audio system.

In terms of Kia Sonet specs, the SUV is likely to share the same engine options with the Venue, including 1.2-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.0-litre GDi turbo-petrol unit. Transmission choices on the Sonet will be a 6-speed MT, a 6-speed iMT and a DCT unit. Despite the current tough circumstances, the Kia Sonet is anticipated to push the company’s plant in Anantapur towards its maximum capacity once it’s launched.
