Can Kia Sonet become the new segment leader with multiple engine-transmission options and some segment-first features on the table?

Kia’s very first entrant to the sub-4m SUV segment, the Sonet is all set to have its launch in around mid-September 2020. Bookings for the Kia Sonet has already commenced for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Recently, test-drive vehicles of the Kia Sonet has started reaching dealerships across the nation. Here we have the first images of the test-drive vehicles at a showroom based in Bangalore.

Kia Sonet has created such a buzz of excitement among the Indian car buyers that it has received more than 6000 units bookings on the first day itself. Like the Seltos, Kia will offer Sonet in two trim levels – Tech Line and GT Line with multiple variants. The Sonet will be available with three engine options including a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel motor and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Transmission choices will comprise of a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT (for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol), a 6-speed MT/ 6-speed AT (for the 1.5-litre diesel) along with a single 5-speed MT (for the 1.2-litre petrol unit.

Kia Sonet will be a step further from the Hyundai Venue when talking about the features. Its cabin will get huge inspirations from the bigger Seltos. The sub-4m SUV by Kia will come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and UVO connect, ventilated front seats, Bose premium sound system, all-digital instrument cluster, smart air purifier and more. While it’s a while away from the official price announcement of the Sonet, the variant-wise of the Kia car has been suggested by the company’s dealerships. Apart from the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet will also compete against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and Ford Ecosport. It will even take on the upcoming Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Toyota Urban Cruiser in the coming time.
