Kia Sorento SUV Receives Full Star Rating At European NCAP

Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV that is on offer in the global market. This SUV has recently undergone the European NCAP crash test and received an admirable five-star rating. The same test score is applicable for the entire line-up.

As per the test report, the Kia Sorento has scored 31.2 points out of 38 points, equaling 82 percent for adult protection. With regards to child protection, the mid-size SUV received 41.9 points out of the maximum 49 points, which translated to 85 percent of protection.

The Kia Sorento SUV did a fabulous job in terms of safety assist. The mid-size SUV gained an impressive score of 14 out of 16 points. However, considering the protection for the pedestrians, Kia Sorento could not keep its high band score. It only scored 34.1 points against the total 63 points, which is only around 63 percent.

It is remarked by European NCAP that the Sorento’s passenger compartment stayed stable when the crash happened. On top of that, the mid-size SUV demonstrated a high level of protection for the car occupants’ critical body parts during the side barrier test. The protection in the event of a more severe side pole impact test was considered adequate. European NCAP also performed a test on the front seats and head restraint in case of rear-end collision. It was noted that the Kia Sorento ended up with good protection against whiplash injury during the test.

The great result that Kia Sorento achieved is mainly thanks to its long list of standard safety. It should be noted that the NCAP crash tests are always performed on the base variants with standard safety equipment. In the case of Kia Sorento, Kia has provided the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system right from the entry-level model, which allows the Kia Sorento to perform well during the safety test.

On higher variants, the safety kits will be fitted with additional features like Highway Driving Assist with Navigation-assist Smart cruise control, Intelligent Limited Assist, High Beam Assist, Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and more. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system gets pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicle detection as well.

The Kia Sorento SUV unit used on the crash test is a mild-hybrid model which is powered by a 1.6-litre Turbo GDI petrol engine along with an electric motor. Apart from this mild-hybrid system, Kia Sorento is also available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine (195 BHP/445 Nm). Both of these engines come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Other vehicles with high scores at the European NCAP test this time include Land Rover Defender, Isuzu D-Max, and Honda Jazz. However, the Hyundai i10 received only a 3-star rating on the same test.
