Kia’s Upcoming Electric SUV Spotted Testing Alongside Tesla Model 3

Under the new “Plan S” development strategy, Kia Motors Corp is focusing on producing more eco-friendly vehicles. Currently, the South Korean automobile giant is having an all-new electric vehicle up its sleeve and the car has been spotted numerous times in its home country and elsewhere. Recently, the upcoming Kia EV has been spied testing with heavy camouflage alongside a Tesla Model 3.

For the uninitiated, the Tesla Model 3 is the most affordable Tesla car on sale in the global markets. It has been spotted following closely the test mule of Kia EV hence it appears that the former has used for benchmark testing purpose.

While the Imagine by Kia concept raised huge attention from the auto enthusiasts for its interesting design, it is believed to spawn off a huge design inspiration for the upcoming Kia’s electric crossover. Spy shots suggested that the all-new EV by Kia will get bigger proportions than the Tesla Model 3 counterpart. Even though no official words have been made by the company, the electric crossover from Kia will join the competition with the Model 3.

As far as we know, Kia’s new electric car will be the first model to be developed on the E-GMP platform sourced from Hyundai. This dedicated architecture will also underpin some Hyundai model like the 45 or the Prophecy zero-emission vehicles which will share a lot of commonalities with the imminent Kia’s electric vehicle. Reportedly, the Kia EV will possibly achieve a claimed range of around 500 km with the supports of multiple battery configurations. Do note that the long-range version of the Tesla Model 3 can do a range of 620 km as per the NEDC cycle.

However, thanks to a more proportional stance, the Kia EV will be taller than the Model 3, thereby attaining a more spacious cabin space compared to the rival. The tested car has been spotted with a large greenhouse area along with raked windshield and sloping roofline. It will feature a signature Tiger Nose grille at the front while the rear end might boast of wraparound tail lamps together with some sporty lines and creases.
