Land Rover Defender-based Electric SUV Unveiled

A UK based Land Rover tuner has unveiled an electrified version of Defender named as NAS-E. Only 30 units of the SUV will be produced and imported into the American market.

The Land Rover Defender is one of those off-roaders, which needs no introduction at all. When it comes to a serious amount of off-roading, no other car can compete to its skills and prowess. The new Defender line-up is yet to receive a fully electric version. There have been a lot of aftermarket customizations, where modifiers have tried to covert Defender into a fully electric SUV. Here’s the latest example of an Electrified Land Rover Defender but in a ‘Twisted’ form. Named as NAS-E, which stands for North America Specific- Electric, is an electrified version of the Defender introduced by Land Rover tuner Twisted. If you don’t know, Twisted Automotive is a UK based company, which builds custom Land Rover Defenders.

The electric motor powering this Land Rover Defender will be offered in two different states of tune

Recently, the company started retailing its Defender in the American market, and those models have been offered with Chevy V8s. Now, the automaker is offering an electric version of the SUV, and it has some interesting specs. The SUV is offered into two different trim levels, namely- the standard NAS-E and the more potent and exclusive NAS-E Plus. This model is based on the Defender which was offered in America between 1993 to 1997. By replacing a V8, the SUV now features an electric motor from Borg-Warner. The NAS-E will be offered in two different states of tune. The standard trim will produce 214bhp of power and 380 Nm of peak torque, while the NAS-E Plus variant puts out power and torque outputs of 320bhp and 419 Nm. The motor is powered by a 60 kWh battery pack.

It'll offer a range 200 miles in one full charge

Moreover, Twisted claims that this electric Land Rover defender will offer 200 miles of range in one full charge. It is also offered with a DC fast charging options, which will make your long trips quite hassle-free. Like the original powertrain, the single motor will be positioned under the hood in a longitudinal orientation. It comes paired with a single-speed gearbox and a two-speed 4WD transfer case. It is offered in three different colour shade options namely- Malibu Yellow, Yosemite Green, or Tahoe Blue.
