Launch of Tata Gravitas (6-Seater Harrier) Reportedly Pushed to 2021

Tata Gravitas (6-seater Harrier) made its debut at the Auto Expo 2020 and was poised to launch during this summer. However, its market introduction has faced yet another delay. Previously, Tata announced its plan to launch the Gravitas by June-July and, then, pushed it to the onset of this year's festive period. However, a recent media report claims that the homegrown UV specialist could delay the launch further to early next year.

Much of this can be blamed to the ongoing pandemic. In fact, after suffering from a major sales setback, various auto manufacturers can be seen seeking ways to revive the sales figures. While many new car launches have happened this month alone, and there's more to come next month, Tata seems to have chosen not to introduce a new product during such tough market conditions. It may be noted here that promising models like the Kia Sonet, is one of the handful of vehicles that will launch in the imminent future. 

The company believes that it’s not feasible to launch the SUV with the ongoing supply chain constraints as well as the uncertainty in the current market. Also, where the demand for Tata cars come majorly from the rural area, the Tata Gravitas is targeted at the urban market which is seeing a lower buying sentiment at the moment. 

The 6-seater version of the Tata Harrier is the company’s second car to be developed on the OMEGA Arc platform. Unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020, Tata Gravitas will derive its power from the tried and tested 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that can produce 170 BHP of maximum power and 350 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.

The upcoming Tata Gravitas will be 63 mm longer, 72 mm wider and 80 mm taller than the Tata Harrier. The SUV will get a similar design theme as the Tata Harrier, except for a batch of changes to keep it fresh in the market. It will have a taller stance, a more upright rear section along with bigger alloys.
