The Citroen C21 compact SUV will be launched in India next year and is expected to have 90-95% localized content.

Recently, the PSA Groupe announced that they have to postpone the launch of the Citroen brand in India with the C5 Aircross due to the pandemic. Earlier, the car was scheduled to hit the Indian shores by the second-half of 2020. After the launch of the C5 Aircross, the Citroen C21 Compact SUV will be the second product from the carmaker, which will launch in India by 2021.

In a recent press statement, the carmaker said, “Groupe PSA has decided to maintain the project timeline and investment for the C-Cubed program, under which the first vehicle designed, developed and made in India would be launched in 2021 as announced in 2019 by Carlos Tavares, chairman of the managing board, Groupe PSA.”

Other than rivalling the hot-selling Maruti Vitara Brezza, the all-new compact SUV will rival the likes of Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and the upcoming Kia Sonet. After the launch of the compact SUV, the carmaker will launch a premium hatchback to compete against Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20. Moreover, the carmaker has also planned to introduce an all-new sedan in the Indian market. The details of the upcoming Citroen sedan are not out yet. All these products from the French carmaker will be based on the company’s Common Modular Platform (CMP).

Citroen's upcoming compact SUV has been spotted in India while getting tested wearing Peugeot 208 body shell. We expect the automaker to offer multiple engine options with the C21 compact SUV- a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mill that produces 130bhp of power and a 1.5-litre oil-burner. The transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed MT and an automatic gearbox.
