Mahindra Alturas Achieves 5-star Safety Rating

Mahindra Alturas, the Indian-bound rebadged version of the SsangYong Rexton, has got a 5-star safety rating in the crash test.

With a view to reinforcing the leading position in the SUV segment, Mahindra has launched the premium SUV, the Alturas G4 with the assistance of Ssangyong. After launch, the Alturas variants are offered across multiple dealerships in India with a price range from Rs. 26.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant to Rs 29.95 lakhs for the top variant.

In the 2017 Korean New Car Assessment Program (K-NCAP), the SsangYong Rexton G4, now known as the Alturas G4, got a five-star rating in terms of collision safety, equivalent to its competitor, Toyota Fortuner, which also scored 5 stars. In terms of safety, Mahindra Alturas G4 is equipped with nine airbags (driver seats, passenger seat, driver’s knee, airbags on the sides of 1st and 2nd seat rows and curtain airbags); dynamic stability control (DSC) with active rollover protection, emergency brake assist (EBA), hill hold control (HHC), traction control system (TCS), anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce limitation (EBL), emergency stop signal (ESS). Developed on a super strong frame structure, reinforced by crumple zones in the front and impact beams on the sides, the car is packed with hill mode descent control (HDC), engine immobilizer, ISOFIX mounts for child seats as standard features.

In the international market, the SsangYong Rexton is packed with nine airbags; 81.7% of the car is made from strong steel. With specific parts sourced from South Korea, the Alturas is locally assembled in India. The Rexton/Alturas is sold as a completely knocked-down (CKD) in India instead of being imported as a complete built-up unit (CBU) from SsangYong like other places. Mahindra Alturas G4 has been offered at the current ‘World of SUVs’ showrooms which pay attention to digital customer experiences to which customers have been familiar with. The customers of Alturas G4 will work with privileged Relationship Managers at the store and then gain access to Purple Club+ premium loyalty programme.

With the power taken from a 2.2L 4-cylinder motor, the Alturas SUV can produce a max power of 178bhp and a peak torque of 420Nm. Transmission duties are implemented by a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7- speed AT unit across all variants.

With such an impressive list of safety features and a powerful engine, the Alturas G4 ensures the driver and the passengers a safe and pleasant travel. The vehicle is certain to help the home-grown automaker strengthen its position in the teeming Indian SUV segment in particular and the Indian auto market in general and effectively compete with other foreign car makers which are also popular with Indian SUV buyers like Toyota with the Fortuner, Ford with the Endeavour and Skoda with the Kodiaq.
