Mahindra eKUV100 is currently the most affordable electric vehicle in India. Its closest competitor is the Tata Nexon EV, which can cost up to twice as much.

Indian carmaker maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd had launched the eKUV100 at India at Auto Expo 2020. The electric SUV is priced at Rs. 8.25 lakh, which make it the most affordable electric car in the country.

Mechanically, the Mahindra eKUV100 is powered by a 15.9 kWh electric motor, which puts out 54 bhp of power and 120 Nm peak torque. The carmaker claims that the all-new EV can offer a claimed range of 147 km. The electric SUV can charge from 0 to 80 per cent in 55 minutes by using a DC fast-charger. In terms of looks, the new eKUV100 looks almost identical to the ongoing KUV100. The EV comes loaded with features like the touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted control, phone charging socket, power windows and much more.

The 2020 Mahindra eKUV100 has no direct rival in the Indian market. If we look a segment above, then we have Tata Nexon EV, which was launched last month in the country. The electric car features the company’s Ziptron powertrain technology. The SUV gets propelled by a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that produces power and torque outputs of 129 PS and 245 Nm. Tata Nexon EV offers an ARAI certified range of 312 km, and is offered with a standard warranty of 3 years and 1.25 lakh km. The electric SUV features automatic headlights, automatic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, fog lamps and dual-tone roof colour. The cabin of the electric SUV features automatic climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, push start/stop button, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Nexon electric SUV is available in three different trims, namely- XM (Rs 13.99 lakh), XZ+ (Rs 14.99 lakh) and XZ+ Lux (Rs 15.99 lakh). If we compare the prices of both the SUVs, the price difference between eKUV100 and top-spec trim of Nexon EV is almost half. The top-spec variant of Nexon EV is Rs 7.74 lakh more expensive than eKUV100. This makes the new Mahindra eKUV100, which is only offered in a single trim, the most affordable EV in India.
