The home-grown automaker is likely to introduce the AMT variant of the Mahindra Marazzo in the Indian auto market ahead of schedule.

Launched last year by Mahindra, the new Marazzo MPV is powered by only a diesel motor with an MT gearbox. Earlier, the domestic auto manufacturer announced that the torque-converter automatic gearbox would be introduced along with the petrol motor next year. Nevertheless, considering the popularity of the Marazzo and the increasing demand for the automatic transmission, now the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) variant of the MPV is expected to be launched before schedule, first with the diesel motor.

The Marazzo has witnessed strong demands in the domestic market with an average sale of 3,000 units a month. The Mahindra Marazzo is now available with a 6-speed MT gearbox and is likely to come with a 6-speed AMT unit sometime next month. The Marazzo MPV directly competes against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is available with a torque-converter automatic gearbox on a petrol motor but misses out on the automatic transmission for the diesel variants. The addition of the AMT gearbox will help the Marazzo increase its competitiveness in the MPV segment.

The Marazzo MPV is currently powered by a new 1.5L diesel motor which is good for 121 bhp of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Once the AMT version has been launched, it will be the first car with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system to get a transversely mounted engine in the world. The MPV is currently priced in the range from Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.37 lakh (ex-showroom), the AMT version, once launched, is likely to be priced slightly higher than its MT counterpart.

The Mahindra Marazzo MPV is the first vehicle to be designed in the USA technical centre of the company with design inputs sourced from Pininfarina. It comes with a body-on-frame architecture and a very amber cabin. It is also the most secure MPV in the Indian auto market as tested by NCAP with a 4-star rating given by G-NACP last year. It comes with an impressive list of safety features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt alert, and ISOFIX child sear which are provided as standard features across all variants.

Recently, the 8-seat version of the Marazzo MPV has also been launched in the Indian auto market. The petrol variant of the Marazzo will be introduced before the BS-VI standards take effect in India in 2020. The Marazzo petrol will be powered by a turbocharged petrol motor and will have a little lower price than the diesel version.
