Mahindra XUV700 will be launched around July 2021. The SUV will be based on an all-new platform and reportedly come with segment features. Upon launch, the Hyundai Alcazar will be its newest rival.

Mahindra officially announced that it will launch the new XUV700 SUV on the same day as Hyundai revealed its Alcazar 7-seat SUV. When questioned that if it was a marketing strategy, a Mahindra dealer said it is a strategy to tell the customer to weigh their choices before making a purchase. Dealers also said that Hyundai played it smart by revealing the Alcazar only a month before its launch, keeping the brand on top of people’s mind. Compared to this, the XUV700 will only launch around July 2021. Both SUVs will compete in the rapidly growing sub-Rs 25 lakh 7-seat SUV segment.

Same Day As Hyundai Alcazar Is Revealed, Mahindra Steals Thunder With XUV700 Announcement

The Mahindra XUV700 will be based on the new monocoque W601 platform, which was also going to underpin a Ford SUV until that JV fell through. The new SUV is expected to be a significant improvement over the XUV500 in ride and handling department, interior design, creature comforts, and features. In fact, going by the XUV700’s spy shots, the centrepiece of the interior will be new dual-floating displays for the infotainment system and instrument cluster.

The Mahindra XUV700 is expected to get uprated versions of the powertrains that debuted on the second-generation Thar. This means the 2-litre turbo may get around 190 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque while the 2.2-litre diesel may churn out peak power and torque close to 190 PS and 400 Nm. Transmission options should be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. Mahindra has also confirmed the option of an AWD system for the XUV700. Upon launch, the new Mahindra XUV700 will compete with the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Creta Alcazar, and the Tata Safari.

Mahindra also announced that production of the Mahindra XUV500 will be ‘temporalily’ discontinued once the XUV700 is launched. This will probably lead to there being an all-new model of the XUV500 as well. Prices for the current Mahindra XUV500 start from Rs 15.13 lakh for the base W7 trim, going up to Rs 19.56 lakh for the flagship XUV500 W11 Option AT variant. The SUV is powered by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel unit that pumps out 155 PS and 360 Nm of peak power and torque figures, respectively. Transmission options are a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
