Mahindra Thar Commemorated By A New Video, Shows Making Of Thar 700

Mahindra Thar debuted on October 4, 2010, and became a successor of the MM540. The model quickly gained attention and created a niche for itself in the market. Next year, Mahindra Thar will approach its 10th-year anniversary. Mahindra has already started preparing for the celebration-worthy milestone with the launch of the special edition Thar 700. Only 700 units of this special model have been made. A new video from Mahindra has shed light on how the Mahindra Thar 700 was created.

The Making Of Mahindra Thar 700

At the beginning of the video, Mahindra shows you around its manufacturing facility where hard-working employees are assembling the Thar 700 from scratch. Starting with mating the body shell and the platform, the workers then install engines and add other parts to the core structures like taillights, wheels, etc, before adding the finsing touches through the installation of badges and decals. 

In the next part, the video focuses on the celebration at Mahindra’s factory when the first Mahindra Thar 700 rolls out. Mahindra Thar 700 is showcased next to the CJ-3 Jeep, the Thar’s forefather. It is worth to know that the Mahindra Thar 700 will be the last Thar to be underpinned by the current platform. The next-gen Mahindra will be underpinned by an all-new architecture that will provide various benefits over the current model.

Mahindra Thar 700 was launched at the price of Rs 9.99 lakh

The Mahindra Thar 700 comes with a handful of exterior updates, including a black grille, silver inserts on the front bumper, 5-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels, and new black decals on the side and bonnet. To distinguish itself from the regular model, the special edition Mahindra Thar 700 bears a special badge with the signature of the Mahindra’s chairman, Anand Mahindra. There are two colour options available, Aquamarine Blue and Napoli Black. For the interior, the special model gets leather upholstery and Thar emblems on the seat cover. Under the hood, the new Thar 700 gets same 2.5-litre four-cylinder CRDe diesel engine that powers the regular version. It makes a maximum power of 105 bhp and a peak torque of 247 Nm. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Meanwhile, Mahindra has been even working on the next-gen Mahindra Thar 2020, which is scheduled to launch next year. The new Thar will be better-equipped and will come with a new touchscreen infotainment system and front-facing second-row seats. It will be available in hardtop and soft top version. The next-gen Thar will even feature a new engine, which is a 140 bhp 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine. This new engine will be compliant with the upcoming BSVI emission norms.
