Launched last year, the 2020 Mahindra Thar has been a runaway success with its waiting period extending up to many months for most variants

Since last month, Mahindra confirmed its plan to increase the prices of all its vehicle across the range. The new price changes were reported to take places from January 2021. The details of the price hike of its hottest vehicle, Mahindra Thar, are just revealed recently. Accordingly, the Mahindra Thar will get pricier by 1.9 per cent. The new price scheme is applied for all bookings made from December 1, 2020, to January 8 2021. For bookings made prior to that, the introductory prices are still applicable.

Mahindra also added that all customers who make bookings from January 8, 2021, onwards will have to pay the full price during the time of delivery. This statement suggests that there might be the second price hike for the SUV in the future. Up to this point, the hot-selling offroad SUV commands a waiting period of up to 9 months.

It is no secret that Mahindra is struggling to meet the massive demand for the new Thar. In order to reduce the waiting period, Mahindra will have to ramp up the production of Mahindra Thar. At the time of launch, Mahindra was only able to make 2,000 units of the Thar per month. From this month, Mahindra targets to increase the production capacity to 3,000 units per month. It is expected to lower the waiting period by a couple of months.

Mahindra Thar is offered in two trim lines, LX and AX. While the latter is designed to cater specifically to the off-road enthusiasts, the former offers a decent level of comfort for regular car users. At launch, Mahindra Thar was available in four variants. Later on, the homegrown carmaker has put an end to the AX 6-seater version due to the safety concern.

Talking about the safety, it is also noteworthy that the Mahindra Thar has recently scored a four-star rating at the Global NCAP safety testing. The test result has assured the high level of safety that this off-roader can provide.
