Mahindra XUV300 BS6 Diesel Variant to Launch Soon

Last year, in December, Mahindra launched the BS6-compliant petrol version of the XUV300. That said, the BS6 diesel version is yet to be put on sale in India. The launch date for the latter, however, doesn’t seem too far away now.

The diesel-powered Mahindra XUV300 keeps a BS4-compliant 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-4 under its hood. The motor is good for 115 PS and 300 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and a 6-speed automatic as standard. This engine is expected to carry forward into the BS6 model, but with upgrades to meet the stricter emission norms. The other engine option is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol mill, which generates 110 PS of maximum power and and 200 Nm of max torque. Gearbox options are limited to just a 6-speed manual; there is no automatic on the petrol version.

The equipment list of the XUV300 is quite impressive, especially for safety features. You get LED DRLs and dual-tone alloy wheels on the exterior, and dual-zone climate control, cruise control, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system inside the car. You also get ABS, EBD, ESP, parking sensors (front and rear), door-open warning, over-speed warning, and seven airbags, and roll-over mitigation. The abundance of safety features has helped the car bag a 5-star rating for adult safety and 4-star rating for child safety by Global NCAP. In fact, the XUV300 currently holds the title of the safest car by an Indian manufacturer.

With the upgrade to BS6-compliaince, the Mahindra XUV300 is expected to get dearer by a fair margin for the diesel versions. The petrol variants, as mentioned above, are already BS6-ready. Currently, the SUV is priced between Rs. 8.3 lakh (base petrol MT) and Rs. 12.7 lakh (top-trim diesel AMT). Rivals to the XUV300 include Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue.
