Maruti Alto K10 Officially Discontinued

Earlier this year, we reported that India’s largest car manufacturer would pull the plug on the Alto K10, which was the second-most affordable car in Maruti’s line-up. Now, the hatchback has been removed from Maruti Suzuki’s official website, thereby signalling that the company has bid farewell to the 1000cc version of its entry-level offering. The carmaker did not update its BS4 1.0-litre petrol mill as per the strict BS6 emission norms. Dealers around the country are known to have already cleared the leftover stock of the Alto K10. The hatchback was first launched back in 2010 and received a facelift in 2014.

Moreover, in 2019, Maruti added some additional safety features to help the car comply with stricter norms. Basically, the car was updated with some standard safety features like ABS with EBD, driver and passenger seat-belt reminder and speed alert system. The carmaker launched the S-Presso hatchback in India last year, which can be viewed as the logical successor of the the Alto K10. 

The Maruti Alto K10 used to come with a BS4-compliant 998cc K10B petrol unit, which belted out 67bhp of max power at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine came paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an AMT as optional. On the other hand, the Maruti S-Presso is powered by the same K10B, 1.0-litre petrol engine, but in a BS6-compliant state. Maruti also showcased the CNG trim of the hatchback at the 2020 Auto Expo. 

The carmaker has already sold 38 lakh-plus units of the car in the Indian market. Inside, the hatchback used to offer features like a stereo system with CD and AUX connectivity, power windows, power steering, a powerful aircon and rotary AC controls. The hatchback was offered in six different trim levels, namely- LX, LXi, VXi, VXi (O), VXi AMT and LXi CNG.

The car used to cost Rs 3.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the entry-level variant and all the way up to 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec CNG trim. Moreover, Maruti offered the hatchback in five distinctive colour shades namely- Tango Orange, Granite Grey, Silky Silver, Solid White and Blazing Red. It rubbed shoulders with the 1.0-litre varinats of the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO.
