Almost 23 Units of Maruti Alto Being Sold Every Hour Since 20 Years

Maruti Alto has crossed 40 lakh sales milestone in India. Currently, it is being offered in two different variants- petrol and CNG.

India’s biggest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has recently revealed that their entry-level model Alto has achieved 40 lakh sales milestone in India. The hatchback was launched in our market 20 years back, which got very popular among the middle-class buyers because of its mileage, affordability and practicality. The Maruti Alto has been country’s top-selling hatchback for 16 consecutive years. The entry-level hatchback has surpassed 10 lakh sales mark back in 2008, followed by 20 lakh in 2012 and 30 lakh in 2016. Some basic calculations show that the company has sold almost 23 unit of Maruti Alto every hour since last 20 years. It is the first entry-level model in our market to meet new BS6 emission norms along with the latest crash and pedestrian safety norms.

Right now, the Maruti Alto is offered in six petrol and two CNG trims priced between Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to Rs 4.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It derives power from an 800cc, 3-pot gasoline motor, which is tuned to produce 47.3bhp of power and 69 Nm of twisting force. The CNG trim puts out 41bhp of power output. Transmission duties are done by a 5-speed MT.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Alto has been ranked as the No.1 selling car in India for 16th year in a row and we are immensely proud to announce another remarkable milestone of 40 lakh cumulative sales.This has become a sales record never achieved by any other Indian car.”
