Maruti Alto Tops The June Sales Chart, Swift Comes Second

Maruti Alto continues to lead the sales chart of India automobile market in June. Coming in the second place is another Maruti model, Maruti Swift. Last month, Maruti has sold 18,733 units of the Alto. With the total sales of 16,330 units, Maruti Swift is the second most sold model in India. Maruti Alto is cheaper than the popular hatchback Swift. Moreover, it is the most affordable car in Maruti’s entire range. Maruti not only dominates the hatchback segment but also sits on the top of the sedan segment with the Dzire which ranks third on top best-selling models in June.

Having the top spots on the chart isn’t something new for Maruti. The true amazement is how the Alto is making progress in expanding its market while the whole industry is facing a severe downturn. In June, Maruti Alto saw an increase of 4 per cent in sales, mostly thanks to the mild facelift update on the Alto 800. Maruti is going to introduce a new car that slots between the Alto and Wagon R. Moreover, an all-new Alto is also in the pipeline, expected to arrive next year. Constant updates probably keep the spark on for a long time.

Maruti Alto 800 is available with a BSVI-compliant 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that makes 48 Bhp and 69 Nm. CNG variant was added recently. It comes with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the Alto K10, a more powerful variant of the Alto range, receives power from the 1-litre petrol engine which is good for 67 Bhp and 90 Nm. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT automatic gearbox. The Alto could archive such massive popularity as it offers a pretty well-rounded package. This small hatchback has all it takes to meet the Indian buyers’ needs, from its affordability, excellent reliability to good after-sale service of Maruti.
