Maruti Suzuki’s first BSVI-ready vehicle, the Baleno 1.2-litre K12C DualJet Smart Hybrid has gone on sale in India at an introductory price of Rs 7.25 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Just a couple of months after the Maruti Baleno received a mid-cycle makeover that gave it a bucketful of cosmetic revisions and feature updates, the premium hatchback has just re-entered India with a completely-revised powertrain system that makes it ready for the upcoming BSVI emission norms mandated across the country.

Maruti Suzuki is among the first carmakers to introduce BS-VI-compliant products in India.

This morning, Maruti Suzuki just introduced the first BSVI-compliant model of its product lineup- the 2019 Baleno facelift with two new petrol engine options- a 1.2-litre K12C DualJet engine with Smart Hybrid Tech and the outgoing 1.2-litre K12B gasoline motor which has undergone some massive upgrades pursuant to the stricter emission rules. Actually, due to the major updates, the Baleno K12B configurations now commands a premium of Rs 13,000- 20,0000 over the predecessors to carry a price tag of  Rs 5.58- 8.90 Lakh (ex-showroom, India) while the K12C DualJet model costs around Rs 7.25 Lakh (for Delta variant) and Rs 7.86 Lakh (for Zeta trim) which posts a substantial increment of Rupees 89,000 compared to similar K12B variants.

The all-new Maruti Baleno has been launched with two BSVI-ready engine options- a K12C DualJet Smart Hybrid and an updated K12B petrol unit.

In order to justify the premium it’s charging for the Baleno DualJet Smart Hybrid, Maruti Suzuki has meticulously worked on the fuel mileage stakes of the new vehicle. According to the automotive company, the Baleno's new engine could roll out better combustion efficiency and lower friction when compared to the outgoing version. To make it all confident for the stringent BSVI standards, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has upgraded the software and hardware of the engine as well as done some major tweaks in the car’s exhaust system. With the onboard sensors mounted on the engine control software, the Baleno Smart Hybrid now ensures a precise fuel injection with a claimed fuel economy of 23.87 km/l. The K12B’s ARAI-certified fuel mileage also reaches 21.4 km/l mark which is far more efficient than the old-gen engine option.

Whereas, the upgraded 1.2-litre K12B petrol motor option is good enough for 83 hp and 115 Nm torque units. Transmission packages encompass a 5-speed manual transmission (for both the mills) and an optional continuously variable gearbox (for K12B variant only).
