Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno are long-standing rivalries in the premium segment. And Maruti Baleno has beaten the Elite i20 11 months in a row.

In the first month of 2019, Maruti has sold 16,717 units, which completely triumphs the Hyundai Elite i20’s 13,290 units. With such an admirable sales volume, Maruti has once more time topped on the sales chart.

A quick look through the monthly sales of two models throughout 2018, Maruti Baleno has created a clear advantage over the Hyundai Elite i20. Starting out 2018 pretty positive, Elite i20 was just slightly behind the Baleno due to its then-new facelift. However, the gap was widened as the year progressed. By the end of the year, Maruti Baleno is well ahead with the total sales of 2,09,183 units against Hyundai Elite i20’s 1,43,203 units gained over the course of 2018.

Now let’s take a quick look over the best-selling model from Maruti. Maruti Baleno is currently retailed through the Nexa outlet, the premium dealerships of the brand, along with other premium vehicles like S-Cross, Ignis and Ciaz.

Recently sold in four grades, namely Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha, the Baleno is priced from 5.45 to 8.77 Lakh. The performance-oriented RS variant is also available on the Baleno.

In terms of powertrain, Maruti Baleno relies on either a 1.2-litre petrol engine or a 1.3-litre diesel engine. The former is good enough to unleash 83 PS and 114 Nm while the later oil burner makes a good 75 PS and 190 Nm. These engines come with the standard gearbox of 5-speed manual transmission. Another CVT option is also available as optional on the petrol trims. On the other hand, the RS Baleno is receiving power from a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine that builds up the maximum power of 102 PS and the maximum torque of 150 Nm.

Despite the recent facelift updates, Hyundai Elite i20 could not surpass the Baleno

Maruti Baleno’s close competitor, Hyundai Elite i20 is packed with a 1.2-litre engine on the petrol variants or a 1.4-litre engine on diesel range. A 5-speed manual transmission comes as standard on petrol variants and the 6-speed manual unit is paired with the diesel mill. Ranging from 5.5 - 9.31 lakh, the price of the Hyundai Elite i20 mostly overlaps the Baleno. The top-spec Elite i20 is pricier than that from Baleno by Rs 54,000.
