Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce its all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Maruti Ciaz. The company's in-house developed motor will even power the Ertiga and the S-Cross

Maruti Ciaz has successfully returned in its facelift form. The latest updates have helped the Ciaz to climb up in the sales chart. It has amassed the huge sales volume of 50,000 units over the course of 2018 and triumphed other popular C-segment vehicles like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

On the facelift Ciaz, Maruti has introduced a new 1.5-litre petrol engine. Compared with the previous petrol engine, this unit is capable to develop more power. Moreover, it is packed with SHVS technology. But for the diesel, Maruti Ciaz keeps the old 1.3-litre diesel motor. After haft a year, Maruti has decided to replace the old unit with a bigger and more refined diesel engine – the in-house built 1.5-litre DDis 225 diesel mill. It is expected that this engine will soon go on sale, probably this month.

The 1.5-litre DDis diesel unit is responsible for higher torque. In fact, this engine is good for 95PS of peak power and 225Nm of maximum torque. This engine will be coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. This powertrain setting could reach the fuel economy of 26.82kmpl. Without the support of the mild hybrid system, this diesel engine consumes more fuel than the outgoing option.

However, the new in-house 1.5-litre diesel unit is more refined in various ways. First of all, this engine will be BSVI-compliant. Moreover, it is also more reliable, lighter and more muted. Gear shifting on the new six-speed manual unit gets smoother. The dual mass flywheel is also tagged along.

The 1.5-litre diesel unit is offered on the Delta Zeta and the high-end Alpha grade while the 1.3-litre SHVS unit will continue as standard engine on the entry variants until the new BSVI emission arrives.
