Maruti Ciaz acquire 30 per cent market share with sales of more than 46,000 units, Honda City at a close second and Hyundai Verna at the third place

India's most successful automaker Maruti Suzuki has just announced that the Ciaz has obtained a sales figure of over 46,000 units for the financial year 2019. That means, the Maruti Ciaz has become the best-selling mid-size sedan for the third consecutive year by acquiring 30% of market share. That said, the sales were down by 21% on comparing with 58,913 units dispatched in the last fiscal. Maruti Suzuki has revealed that the top-spec Alpha is the hot-selling variant as it accounts for over 48 per cent of the total sales. On the other hand, over 31 per cent of the total units feature the Nexa Blue colour option. First introduced in the year 2014, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 2.56  lakh units of its C2-segment contender till now.

The Honda City, which is the biggest competitor of the Ciaz, has ended the fiscal year with a sale of 41,072 units. On the other hand, Hyundai has sold 39,568 units of Verna in the same time period, which is an increase of 10% as compared to the last year. Rivals like Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento have sold 11,831, 10,457 and 5,871 units, respectively. 

Maruti Suzuki launched the updated Ciaz in August last year. It is powered by a  new1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 hp at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The transmission is done by a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox. Both the diesel and the petrol mills feature the company's smart hybrid technology. The sedan even received a 1.5-litre, DDiS225 diesel unit recenty. It outputs 95 hp of maximum power and 225 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.  The petrol and diesel engines are very fuel-efficient and provide a mileage of 21.56 kmpl and 26.82 kmpl, respectively.

The sedan comes available with some standard safety features, including front airbags, reverse parking sensors, speed alert system, seat belt reminder and rear defogger.
