Thanks to high demand for Swift, Baleno, Dzire, Maruti has topped the sales charts for the month of October with a total of 1.82 lakh units sold, which totals to YoY growth of 18.9 per cent.

Maruti is the largest carmaker of the country. The manufacturer has managed to retain the top spot in the sales tally for the month of October by selling over 1,82,448 units. However, only 9,586 units were exported to the international markets and 6,037 units were sold to other OEMs in the country, while the remaining 1,66,825 units were sold in the Indian market only. In the same month, last year, Maruti sold a total of 1,24,951 units. With these figures, Maruti has registered a growth of 17.9 per cent on a YoY basis. Also, being always inquisitive to find out how many units were sold in a minute on average, we could conclude that Maruti sold 4 cars every minute in October this year.

A major part of this figure comes from the B2-segment cars like the Swift, Baleno, Dzire, and Tour S. These models contributed with a sales of over 95,000 units, which is a growth of over 26.6 per cent on a YoY basis. Entry-level models like Alto and S-Presso could manage to clock a sales figure of 28,462 units. Sadly, it is lower than the figure scored in the same month last year, thus resulting in a drop of 0.3 per cent on YoY basis. However, the combined sales of entry-level hatchbacks, premium hatchbacks, sedans, and other B2 offerings totalled to a growth of 19.2 per cent on YoY basis.

Also, the carmaker would soon be launching the new-gen Celerio in the Indian market. It has already been spotted while testing, wrapped under heavy camouflage.

However, our in-house rendering artist – Shoeb R. Kalania has managed to create a digital rendering of the new-gen Celerio. It looks a bit posher than the outgoing model and adopts the Maruti’s new family design language. It is likely to go on sale by sometime next year. Powering the new-gen Celerio will be the same 1.0L 3-pot petrol motor that puts out 68 PS of peak power and max torque of 90 Nm. The gearbox options will include a 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.
