Maruti Dzire Outsells Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire Put Together

Financial Year 2019-20 has been quite disappointing for the Indian automobile industry as a whole. Almost every carmaker has registered a negative sales growth compared to the previous year. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) has also seen a sales decline, but has still managed to retain its top spot in the market. Maruti Dzire, the most-affordable sedan company, is the best-seller in its segment.

Maruti Dzire is the leader of the sub-compact sedan segment in terms of sales

Maruti Dzire managed to sell nearly 1.79 lakh units, which is considerably more than the other sub-compact sedans in its segment. In fact, the combined sales of Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Aura, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire, and VW Ameo (a total of 1,06,469 units) fall short of the Dzire by a huge margin. As can be seen above, the Dzire was also the bestseller during the last financial year, and by a similarly huge margin. We can also see here that very car has witnessed a sales drop between 27% to a whopping 61%. With the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the consequent nation-wide lockdown, there have been no signs of recovery for the industry right now. Not only sales, but production has taken a hit as well. Many manufacturing facilities have been temporarily shut down, and a few new product launches have also been delayed.

Just before India went into lockdown, Maruti had introduced a mid-life facelift for the Dzire. The car features a redesigned front grille, front bumper, and foglamp housing. There has been no change to the interior of the car. The engine has been updated though. Maximum power figure has now increased to 90 PS, while the peak torque figure remains steady at 113 Nm.
