Maruti Ertiga has been updated with a new version of SmartPlay Studio infotainment system that can be accessed even via a smartphone application

Maruti Suzuki had recently introduced an updated version of its Smartplay Studio infotainment system in the Swift hatchback. Following up, the automaker has now introduced the same version of the Smartplay Studio touchscreen infotainment system in its Ertiga. The highlights of the new system not only include its compatibility with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto but also that it can be accessed through a smartphone. However, the 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is only offered with the top-of-the-line ZXi+ trim. Prices of the Maruti Ertiga start at Rs 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and go all the way up to Rs 10.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti has discontinued the diesel variants of the MPV and the petrol and CNG variants are the only options available now. The Ertiga derives power from a 1.5-litre K15B petrol mill which comes coupled with a SHVS mild-hybrid system. The engine puts out 105 PS of peak power and 138 Nm of twisting force.

The transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Moreover, the automaker had also recently launched the BS6 CNG version of the MPV, which is priced at Rs 8.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Rumours suggest that Maruti is currently working on an electric version of its MPV as well. Before that happens though, the carmaker will first introduce the WagonR EV in our market, which has been even been spotted multiple times getting tested in real-world conditions. The electric version of the tall hatchback is expected to hit the Indian shores by next year.

Going into further detail, the electric motor will offer 130km of range. It’ll be offered with both AC charging and DC fast charging systems as standard. The former can charge the hatchback from 0-80 per cent in just 7 hours, while the latter is capable of doing the same job in just 1 hour. It'll derive power from a lithium-ion battery that Maruti will source from TDSG, India's first-ever lithium-ion battery manufacturer. Once launched, the WagonR EV will compete with the likes of upcoming Mahindra eKUV100, Tata Tiago EV and Renault Kwid EV.
