Maruti Ertiga overthrew Toyota Innova Crysta to become the best selling MPV in India

Last month, Maruti Ertiga has outdone its main rival, Toyota Innova Crysta and climbed in the sales chart to become the best selling model of its segment. In August, 8,391 units of Maruti Ertiga was retailed. The same month last year, Maruti sold 3,515 units of the Ertiga, which means the Maruti Ertiga has registered a significant YoY sales growth of 139 per cent. Maruti Ertiga’s improving sales performance is one rare case in the time of the sluggish market. The generation updates mainly contribute to the significant increase in sales performance. At such an amazing growing speed, Maruti Ertiga overthrows Toyota Innova Crysta to become best selling MPV in India. Toyota Innova Crysta’s sales figure stood at 4,796 units, which is 3,595 units less than Maruti Ertiga’s number.

What are the updates on the new that could attract so many customers? Sitting on the new Heartect platform, the new-gen Ertiga is bigger than its predecessor in terms of dimension. Maruti has discontinued the old 1.3-litre diesel unit on the previous Ertiga and replaced it with two new engine options including a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine which is also used in the new Ciaz is powerful enough to deliver a maximum power of 105 Bhp and a max peak of 138 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel engine is good for 95 PS and 225 Nm. With regards to the transmission, the diesel motor is paired to a 6-speed manual while the petrol version is offered with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic unit.

Following Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra Bolero ranks third on the month-end sales chart with 3,993 units sold last month. Renault Triber takes the fourth position with 2,490 units. The fifth best-selling MPV in India in August is the recently launched Maruti XL6.
