Maruti Plans To Launch Suzuki Vitara in India, Will Rival Hyundai Creta & Kia Seltos

Maruti is planning to launch the Suzuki Vitara in India by 2022 to rival the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks.

As per recent reports, India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the Suzuki Vitara in the country. The upcoming Maruti Vitara will be the new-gen version of the Suzuki Vitara, which is already on sale in the international market. And, one can expect the India-spec Vitara to look identical to the one sold in the international markets. Earlier, Maruti sold the Grand Vitara in India, but that was discontinued due to is poor sales. Therefore, the automaker is expected to price it quite aggressively. The 2020 Suzuki Vitara is likely to launch in India by mid-2022. Once launched, it’ll rival with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Nissan Kicks.

From 2021 to 2023, the automaker has plans to introduce five new SUVs in India, and new-gen Vitara is one of those five models. Internationally, the SUV is powered by a 1.0-litre Boosterjet and a 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine. The former puts out 109 Bhp of power and 170 Nm of peak torque, while the latter develops power and torque outputs of 138 Bhp and 220 Nm, respectively. The 1.0-litre unit comes paired with a 5-speed or 6-speed MT, while the 1.4-litre motor comes coupled to a 6-speed MT or 6-speed AT. One can expect the India-spec Vitara to be powered by the same powertrain options. In terms of dimensions, the international-spec Vitara is 4,175 mm long, 1,775 mm wide, 1,610 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. The India-spec model is expected to have the same dimensions.

Moreover, Maruti has also planned to launch the new-gen model of Vitara Brezza in India. It is expected to hit the Indian shores by the second half of 2022. The upcoming model of the SUV will employ new looks and more features. One can expect it to be slightly expensive than the ongoing model. Once launched, it’ll compete with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.
