Maruti S-Presso CNG To Launch Soon

Maruti S-Presso CNG was showcased for the first time ever at the Auto Expo 2020 and now, it looks like the car has finally got close to make its market debut.

The Maruti S-Presso CNG will join the BSVI version of the Maruti Alto 800 CNG in the company's range of entry-level CNG-powered vehicles. Like we said, the CNG variant of the S Presso was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in a production-ready form, which means the car could go on sale anytime now. In fact, if not for the unfavourable conditions prevelant across the country, the car would have already gone on sale by now. The production of the new version will take place alongside the petrol-only variant at the company's Manesar-based facility in Haryana.

Under the Mission Green Million plan, Maruti Suzuki has so far introduced the CNG variants of the Alto, Wagon R and Ertiga. The Wagon R CNG is capable of delivering a fuel economy of 32.52 km/kg which makes it far more affordable to run than the petrol model. Similarly, the Maruti S Presso will offer lower running cost than the petrol-only model. The updated motor for the upcoming model carries a new dual interdependent ECU and a new fuel injection system.

Maruti S Presso S-CNG will go on sale in four variants, LXI, LXi (O), VXI and VXI (O). It will be powered by an updated version of the 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that propels the petrol-only model. Oh the regular version, this engine can put out a maximum power of 67 Bhp and a peak torque of 90 Nm. However, for the CNG variants, the power and outputs have been lowered to 58 Bhp and 78 Nm, respectively. The CNG model will come only with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the regular version has been available with a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT.

The Maruti Spresso is currently priced from Rs 3.71 lakh to Rs 4.99 lakh. The price of the Maruti S-Presso CNG is not available at the moment. Once launched, it will lock horns with the Hyundai Santro CNG, which is priced from 5.84 lakh to Rs 6.2 lakh. Introduced last year, Maruti S Presso is among the latest new car launches from Maruti Suzuki. This crossover hatchback has quickly become a popular option in its segment. Maruti S Presso rivals the likes of Datsun redi-GO, Renault Kwid and Hyundai Santro.
