The Maruti S-Presso will be slotted under the Vitara Brezza and become a fierce rival of the Renault Kwid in India.

Various carmakers in India are betting much on this festive season, in an effort to revise their sales across the segments and so does Maruti Suzuki. The country’s largest automaker is pinning its hopes on the upcoming Maruti S-Presso – an all-new hatchback carrying crossover-ish styling elements. Last week, the S-Presso base variant has been spotted on the roads for the first time. Yesterday, Maruti Suzuki eased its new offering in a sketch along with an official video ahead of its imminent launch lined up for the end of September 2019.

The Maruti S-Presso is based on the Future S Concept which was unveiled at the Auto Expo in 2018.

The upcoming Maruti S-Presso is the company’s indigenously designed and developed hatchback that will be retailed across the ARENA dealerships. The “micro SUV” will go on sale in the Indian market from Sept 30 and will be exported to some selected markets in the world as well. Through the set of teased images, it is easy to make out that the S-Presso carries forward a host of design cues from the Future S Concept which was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo.

As said earlier, the S-Presso’s design language is largely inspired by the company’s lineup of crossovers and SUVs, reflecting the car users’ modern lifestyles. The SUV-styled Maruti hatchback gets quite a butch look upfront with the grille and fog lamps housings similar to that of the Vitara Brezza. The faux skid plates on the bumpers along with the black plastic body claddings are something that adds much to the SUV-ish appearance of the vehicle.

The Maruti S-Presso will be available with 9 variants. It will get a maximum power of 67 HP and a peak torque of 90 Nm from a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. This engine will be BSVI compliant and come mated to a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT option. The all-new Maruti S-Presso will be positioned under the Vitara Brezza in the lineup. It will rival the likes of Renault Kwid and some other models in the hatchback segments. Prices of the S-Presso might start from Rs 4.5 Lakh and go up to Rs 6.5 Lakh for the range-topping variant (all prices are estimated, ex-showroom).
