Maruti Suzuki breaks Japan's record to Reach Production Milestone of 2 Crore Cars in India

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest car manufacturer in the country has announced a new achievement on Monday. They have become the first automaker in India to have cumulative sales of over 20 million or 2 crores from the two factories Gurugram and Manesar.

MSIL has a long time holding the Apex position in India automobile manufacturers. Maruti Suzuki has added another feather to its cap to cross the tremendous milestone since the first Maruti 800 was rolled out in December of 1983. To reach this production mark, Maruti Suzuki India took precisely 34 years and 6 months. This Indian-arm of the Japanese carmaker successfully beat Suzuki Japan's 2 million production record by over a decade. Suzuki Japan took 45 years and 9 months to achieve this milestone.

The first mark which is 5 million milestones was achieved in April 2005, while 10 million was hit in March 2011. The 15 million mark, then, reached in May 2015 and it just needs three more years to add another 5 million to nail the total count 20 million.

Of the 20 million units, 14.37 million vehicles are produced in Gurugram, and for the rest, 5.62 million vehicles are from the Manesar facility. Currently, Maruti Suzuki plants in Haryana has produced 16 models including Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Alto, Swift and others for the domestic market. The vehicles made in the country are also exported to more than 100 other countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America. Maruti Suzuki has been boosting the sales and production with double-digit growth year after year. The stage 2017- 2018 which is considered as the financial years, the company rolled out a total of 17,68,488 accounting for 11.78 percent growth units. In particular, 16,43,467 units were sold in the domestic market and 1,23,903 units were exported.

20 millionth Maruti car, a Vitara Brezza, at the company’s Gurugram plant.

The company representatives, including Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO of MSIL, celebrated the rollout of the 20 millionth Maruti car, a Vitara Brezza, at the company’s Gurugram plant.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) sets their next target to produce 5 million cars in India by 2030. Specifically, they aim at selling 50 lakh cars a year, in which 15 lakh of the total is from electric cars. In order to reach this huge sale, this big automobile name has planned an aggressive roadmap for launching conventional petrol and diesel cars along with electric cars.

The pioneer Maruti electric car is longing to be launched in India in 2020 which would be made in the form of WagonR electric. Apart from this, they will also launch Swift, Alto, DZire, Baleno electric.

UPDATE – Last month, Suzuki also revealed to cross 20 million car production in India. This month, Maruti Suzuki, their subsidiary in India, has announced the same mark. In fact, Suzuki reached the 20 million mark before Maruti Suzuki because they included the production from the new Gujarat plant, whereas Maruti Suzuki reached later because under them are the only two plants in Haryana, whereas under Suzuki are all three plants.
