Maruti Suzuki Cuts Vehicle Productions By 8% Due To Low Demand In Feb 2019

The production number of passenger cars including the Maruti Dzire, Alto, Swift and Vitara Brezza drops by 8.4 per cent to 147,550 units in February 2019 as against 161,116 units sold in February 2018.

India’s leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki cuts the manufacturing capacity for its vehicles by over 8 per cent in February as a result of subbed demands in India. Reports reveal that the demand for four-wheelers in the market is on the slippery these days and Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) shows no exception. The Indo-Japanese carmaker manufactured a total of 1,48,959 units, including Super carry- light commercial vehicle, across its facilities last month which posts an 8.3 per cent decrease from 1,62,524 units produced in the same period of 2018.

As per the automotive company, the passenger vehicle sub-segment which is divided into Mini, Compact, Mid-size, UV, Van and LCV saw a big drop by 8.4 per cent from 1,61,116 units in Feb 2018 to 1,47,550 units in Feb 2019. However, the Maruti Eeco and Omni production saw an escalation by 22.1 per cent last month. It registered 16,898 units last month when compared with 13,827 units in February 2018.

These figures on Maruti Suzuki’s production show a rapidly changeable scenario in the Indian market this year. In fact, MSI had reported a total number of 1,83,061 units rolled out from the production line, boasting a 15.6 per cent increase over 1,58,396 units produced in January 2018. The passenger vehicles whereby also saw a substantial growth by 14.3 per cent to 1,78,459 units in the first month of 2019 compared with 1,56,168 units in the year-ago period. Besides, the company’s domestic sales reported an increment of 1.1 per cent at 1,42,150 units in January while that of February witnessed a dip of 0.9 per cent at 1,39,110 units. Maruti Suzuki, when contacted, refused to comment on the reasons for falling sales performance as well as the production cut.

The automaker’s manufacturing capacity, as it’s concerned, stand at 15.5 Lakh units per annum from two factories in Gurgaon and Manesar. On the other hand, the Suzuki-owned Hansalplur plant also gets an installed capacity of around 2.5 Lakh from the first line. The second line has been yet to reach its peak 2.5 lakh units per annum while the third production line at Gujarat plant rolls out an additional manufacturing capacity of 2.5 Lakh units per annum for the company.
