Maruti Suzuki is further developing the new-gen1.5L petrol Ertiga to become a CNG version, which is projected to be launched within 6 months.

The second-generation Maruti Ertiga has been introduced to the Indian auto market with four trim levels:  L, V, Z and Z+. The price list of the new vehicle ranges from Rs 7.74 lakh for the base LXi petrol variant to Rs 10.90 lakh for the top-of-the-line ZXi+ diesel version.

Supported by the brand-new Heartect platform, the facelifted Ertiga has greater dimensions in terms of the exterior and the interior. With a better-looking appearance as well as a much more modern, comfortable and flexible cabin, the new Ertiga is really a breakthrough in terms of styling of Maruti Suzuki for the well-known MPV.

Furthermore, the MPV also comes with a more powerful 1.5L K15B petrol motor, which can deliver a max power of 105bhp at 6000rpm and a peak torque of 138Nm at 4,400rpm. This engine is combined with Suzuki’s new SHVS smart hybrid tech borrowed from the Maruti Ciaz facelift. This smart hybrid system is equipped with the dual battery system for the idle start/stop system and the torque assistance. The facelifted MPV also far surpasses its predecessor in terms of the fuel efficiency. It can churn out a mileage of 19.34kmpl (petrol MT) and 18.59kmpl (petrol AT).

The diesel variants receive power from the tested 1.3-litre DDiS motor which can generate 89bhp of maximum power at 4,400rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 1,750rpm with a single-battery system and an SHVS mild hybrid technology. The diesel Ertiga also records an impressive fuel efficiency of 25.47kmpl.

Although the outgoing model of the 2018 Ertiga is also offered with a CNG version, the facelifted model only comes with petrol and diesel variant. The previous CNG version of the 2018 Ertiga was a great success, very popular with fleet and private buyers. Despite having decided delay launch the CNG version of the new Ertiga, the largest Indian automaker has been reported to release it in the second quarter of 2019. The CNG version of the new Ertiga is believed to preserve the Smart Hybrid technology and the dual-battery system.

Having said that, right now, it is too early to anticipate anything about the features as well as the specifications of the facelifted Maruti Ertiga CNG. The only thing we are quite sure is that given the serious condition of air pollution in India, this more environmentally friendly version of the Ertiga MPV is expected to become a popular vehicle with Indian auto buyers, helping Maruti Suzuki reinforce the MPV’s position in this teeming segment in particular and the Indian auto market in general. In India, the facelifted Ertiga directly takes on the likes of the Honda BR-V and the recently launched Mahindra Marazzo.
