Marut Suzuki will work on all models of its profile so that they could meet up with the new BS-VI Emission Norms.

BS-VI emission norms will take effect on April 1 2020. And just in two years, all vehicles will have to be BS-VI compliant. On the way to prepare for the new norms, Maruti Suzuki has set up their plan to upgrade models across the range to meet the new standard.

The government orders all car manufacturers to stop producing all models that could not be compliant with the BS-VI. From March 31, the production of non-BS-VI-compliant vehicles will have to stop, and from April 1, only BSVI vehicles are allowed to be manufactured. Another three months will be allowed as a transition period.

Many automakers have shown their attempt to exclude all the models that are not BSVI-compliant and planning on designing new cars that strictly follow the new norms. As the result, a wide range of models has been announced to be discontinued as it could not make it to post-BS-VI emission norm application.

Maruti Suzuki as the largest car manufacturers in India has confirmed their plan on overhauling their production portfolio. There are in total 15 models and more than 40 powertrain options across their production profile. However, unlike some manufacturers who decide to give an end to the slow-selling models that don’t meet the BS-VI standard, Maruti will not say goodbye to any of its product. It is partly because most of Maruti Suzuki’s models are doing well in the market, which means a big drop in sales to lose any of them. Instead, Maruti will work on upgrading their engine to be more environment-friendly.

On the other hand, for other companies, it would be more expensive to rework their engines than ending it. Some ill-fated models include Honda Brio, Hyundai Eon, Mahindra Verito, Toyota Etios Liva.

As the leading automaker in the industry, Maruti has shown its commitment to the new norms by working rigorously to make their existing products greener. According to source from inside Maruti, they have been “working overtime” these days to meet the new goal. More employees are recruited to ensure the process of their work. Maruti will put effort into engineering not only the current models but also BS-VI motors for their new cars.

Maruti Suzuki has to expand their human resources to prepare for the upcoming norms

"We are working very hard, we are working overtime. No other manufacturer has this kind of work which they have to do. We have the largest number of model portfolio and the largest number of powertrains," said MSI Senior Executive Director C V Raman.

The Supreme Court has set to skip the BS-V norms and get straight right to the BS-VI norms. This decision is made in order to deal with the aching and merging air pollution issue.
