Maruti Wagon R 2019 Sale in March has increased to 16,152 units thanks to the new-gen updates.

Maruti Wagon R was given generation change back in February. The latest generation model brings in both cosmetic and mechanical changes. The new model seems to have struck the right chord with the buyers. In March, Wagon R’s sales figure has exceeded the 16,000 units mark for the first time after 11 months. The name Wagon R appeared in the market almost a decade ago. It soon became people’s favourite. In 2019, the Wagon R has received its long-await overhaul to strengthen its position in the very competitive small car market.

The new Maruti Wagon R is built on the fifth-gen Heartect platform, which is lighter than the previous model’s. Besides, the Maruti Wagon R 2019 gets a new motor which is the 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine. This motor with 82 bhp and 113 Nm on tap is previously featured on the Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis. There are two transmission options available for this petrol engine, namely, a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission.

The old 1.0-litre petrol engine is also carried forward to the new generation Wagon R. This engine is offered with either manual or AMT options. The maximum power output measures at 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque. A CNG fuel option is now available on the 1.0-litre engine trim.

Also, in line with the upcoming stringent safety requirements, Maruti Wagon R comes with more safety features. It is equipped with driver airbag, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt reminder, rear parking sensors and speed warning system and across the range. On the top-spec variants, there will be dual-airbags, front seatbelts with pre-tensioner and load limiters.

All-new Wagon R has gone on sales since February 2019. Its generation makeover has totally shaken up the sales performance. From 10,048 units sold in the first month of 2019, it jumped to 15,661 units in February and last month, the sales figure reached 16,152 units. Maruti Wagon R has crossed the 16,000 unit marks for again after 11 months.

With the surge in sales, the Wagon R has ended up in fourth place in the ultimate monthly car sales chart. It is only 644-unit apart from the third-ranked Alto. It has triumphed other best-selling models like Swift or Vitara Brezza. It is still not sure if the new-gen Wagon R's heat could withstand in the long run.
