Maruti will reportedly launch the Wagon R seven seater next month. The Maruti Wagon R MPV will pit against the Renault Triber, Datson Go+.

According to a recent report, Maruti Suzuki will launch the seven-seater version of the Wagon R next month. While the standard Wagon R is sold through the regular Arena showrooms, Maruti will retail the Wagon R MPV via its more premium outlet branch, Nexa. Maruti Wagon R seven-seater version is likely to be named Solio.

Recently, Maruti gave its popular hatchback Wagon R a generation update. The most notable change on the new-gen Wagon R is its new Heartect platform, which brings around larger dimensions and better interior space. Besides, in addition to the exterior and interior updates, a fleet of new technologies and features are also added. After such an extensive makeover, the price of the Maruti has substantially increased. Hence, even though the third-gen Maruti Wagon R manages to maintain a stable and decent sales volume, it could not sweep the sales chart like the previous models at their peak.

The seven-seater Wagon R could even come with a more fulfilling feature package and extended dimensions. To accommodate the third row, the length will increase but it still measures under four meters. The Wagon R will compete directly with Renault’s upcoming Triber MPV. Renault is all set to reveal the Triber in the upcoming months. To keep the price in check, Renault Triber will be highly localized. Renault MPV is expected to be priced aggressively at around Rs. 5.5-8 lakh. It is also possible that Maruti will put the price of the seven-seater Wagon R in the same price range in order to compete with Renault Triber.

It is likely that the seven-seater Wagon R will inherit the current powertrain of the Wagon R, 1.2-litre K-series petrol with a five-speed manual or five-speed AMT gearbox. The engine is good for the maximum power of 82 bhp and maximum torque of 113 Nm. On the long term, Maruti Wagon R MPV is likely to get the hybrid and electric variant, just like the Wagon R EV.
