India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is expanding its portfolio by introducing new cars into the Indian market. At the Auto Expo 2020, the carmaker showcased new vehicles like Brezza petrol, Ignis facelift, S-Presso CNG and Swift Hybrid. Moreover, the company is also planning to introduce electric cars in the near future. Recently, we spotted the upcoming WagonR EV getting tested on Gurugram roads.

Reports suggest that the car will be called XL5 and will be retailed through the company’s premium Nexa dealership network. As compared to the standard Maruti Wagon R, the test mule would look a tad different. It will have 15-inch sporty looking alloy wheels carried over from the Ignis. The upcoming tallboy looks to have employed a distinctive look upfront, featuring split headlights along with a unique upper and lower grille. The front profile of the car also looks to now get a new fog lamp housing and bumper.

The rear section of the car, on the other hand, is likely to feature crystal clear LED taillights and high-mounted stoplight. One can also expect the spied car to be offered in two versions- ICE version and an all-electric version. The ongoing Maruti WagonR is powered by a BSVI compliant, four-cylinder K12M engine that produces 82.94 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and 133 Nm of twisting force at 4,200 rpm. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed MT and AMT.

Compared to the all-electric XL5, the newly launched Maruti Brezza petrol is expected to be introduced with the company’s mild-hybrid technology soon. This feature will be offered with just the automatic gearbox version. The new-gen Maruti Brezza derives power from a 1.5-litre, K15B, petrol unit, which offers power and torque outputs of 103 bhp and 138 Nm respectively. The same engine options can also be found in the Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6. The sub-compact SUV competes with the likes of Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon.
