Ertiga-based Maruti XL6 has launched recently at a starting price of Rs 9.79 lakh. This new model offers a more premium alternative tO Ertiga.

Based on the Ertiga, the recently-launched XL6 comes across as a more premium six-seater alternative to its donor model. Maruti XL6 is available in two trims, Zeta and Alpha. Each trim comes in two variants, manual and automatic. The price range of the Maruti XL6 starts from Rs 9.79 lakh (Zeta MT) and goes up to Rs 11.46 lakh (Alpha AT). Recently, Gaadiwaadi has uploaded a video delivering a quick comparison between the two models, Ertiga and XL6.

Maruti XL6 vs Maruti Ertiga

Measuring 4,445 mm in length and 1,775 mm in width, Maruti XL6 is longer and wider than the Ertiga by 50mm and 40 mm, respectively. However, it features the same wheelbase of 2,740 mm. At the back of the car, the Maruti XL6 houses a 209-litre boot space. The Maruti XL6 is heavier than the Ertigat by 30 kilograms, which slightly reduces the fuel efficiency of the car. At the ARAI test, the XL6 claimed a fuel mileage of 19.01 kmpl (manual) and 17.99 kmpl (automatic). Compared to the Ertiga, the manual and automatic XL6 is less fuel economic by a small margin.

To create a distinctive identity for the new car, Maruti has done a comprehensive exterior revision to the XL6. The newly-launched XL6 gets a completely new front fascia with new black-out grille, sharp headlights and more black plastic used on the bumper. Other exterior highlights include 15-inch black alloy wheels, roof-mounted rails, LED headlights and LED DRLs, sporty skid plates at the front and rear end. Apart from the piano black application on the tailgate and a new bumper, the Maruti XL6's rear design looks similar to that of the Ertiga.

Maruti XL6 features more premium interior than the regular Ertgia

The distinctions between the Maruti XL6 and the Ertiga is widened when we take the interior into account. Positioned in a higher price band, the Maruti XL6 comes with more premium interior design. The most noticeable difference between the XL6 and the Ertiga is that the XL6 comes with a 2+2+2 seating layout with two captain seats for the second row while the Ertiga features a 2+3+2 seating arrangement which allows up to seven seats. However, a larger seating capacity comes at a price. The Ertiga has less to offer compared to the XL6 when it comes to interior space and comfort. The XL6 also looks plusher with dark wood element on the dashboard, silver-garnished functional steering wheel.

Despite carrying a different exterior and interior design, the Maruti XL6 shares the same engine setting with its donor Ertiga. It comes with the same 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine that develops a maximum power of 104 PS and 138 Nm. This motor is paired with a standard 5-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed torque converter automatic unit. There is no diesel engine option on the XL6. All in all, the Maruti XL6 is a more premium offering with a new look and an upmarket interior. While the Maruti Ertiga is retailed at the regular Arena dealerships, Maruti XL6 is available for sale via the Nexa premium showroom network.
