The first EV of Maruti, the WagonR which has been displayed in the 2018 MOVE Global Mobility Summit, is projected to make its official launch in 2020. Maruti has recently carried out a national-scale test on Indian roads to record the information concerning its performance.

As far as concerned that Mahindra and Tata Motors are currently the only carmakers providing EVs in India. Maruti Suzuki has also confirmed to release the first 7-seaters electric vehicle of their portfolio. The nationwide field testing includes 50 test units that could help Maruti to have a deep understanding of their vehicle’s performance and behaviours toward the conditions of Indian traffic. The spotted testing recorded by an automotive fan is on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway without any camouflage. Perhaps it is carried out as a strategy of the auto manufacturer in order to attract people’s interest toward their first electric car.

Maruti is implementing a nationwide testing on their WagonR to collect data in regard to its performance that makes it ready ahead of launch.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR will be the first EV of its car list portfolio

The all-new electric prototype is based on the Heartect platform. Actually, there aren’t any exact information about the battery pack of the WagonR. It is likely to be a Lithium-Ion battery pack which will be manufactured with technical support from their partner, Toyota. Since it is the significant contributor in EVs costs, Maruti aims to cut down the costs by their own-manufactured battery pack. Besides, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR is anticipated to come with standard safety features such as ABS with EBD along with dual airbags.
