Mahindra Armor Light Specialist Vehicles (ALSV) are carrying out a peacekeeping mission in Africa.

Mahindra & Mahindra is the leading utility vehicle manufacturer in India. The product line-up of the company ranges from passenger vehicles to commercial vehicles. Apart from these mass-market products, Mahindra also manufactures vehicles for military purpose. These vehicles are also exported to other countries as well.

One of the military vehicles manufactured by Mahindra is the Mahindra Armor Light Specialist Vehicles (ALSV). This vehicle is current doing duties in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Africa. ALSV, alongside the 16th Sikh Regiment, is sent to Africa by the UN Nation on a peacekeeping mission.

ALSV fulfils all safety standards required for a military vehicle. Meeting STANAG Level I standard and STANAG Level II for ballistics protection, this military vehicle can offer a high level of protection for the soldiers.

On the standard model, the ALSV offers a seating capacity of 5+1 seater. For the upgraded version, the seating configuration can be extended to 10+2. The cargo space of the vehicle provides enough room for loading arms and ammunition. It also provides an additional cargo space of 400 kgs, increasing the total payload to over 1000 kgs. Mahindra also equips the ALSV with special features which come handful during the military duties, for example, GPS, radio (HF/VHF/UHF), megaphone system, surveillance, and tactical command and control with mapping.

Powering the Mahindra ALSV is a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine with a maximum power of 215 Bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. The engine is also compatible with NATO fuels. It comes with a standard 4-speed automatic gearbox while a 6-speed automatic gearbox is offered as optional. 4x4-drive system along with differential locks for both axles is available as standard, increasing the driving capability and allowing the vehicle to cross desert and forest terrain.

This powertrain allows the ALSV to do the 0-60 kmph sprint in 12 seconds and reach the top speed of 120 kmph. In addition, it offers 30-degree gradeability, run-flat tyres with a self-inflating system. As for the suspension system, the Mahindra ALSV consists of heavy-duty double-wishbones which provides a good balance between riding and handling quality. Mahindra ALSV also features roof-mounted turret, machine gun mounts, anti-tank missile launchers and grenade launchers. The vehicle is qualified to carry different missions, including carrying ammunition, patrolling, ferrying people border security, and mobile ambulance.
