Mercedes-Benz GLB SUV Revealed, Will Be Launched Globally Soon

Mercedes-Benz is about to introduce its latest all-new SUV GLB on the international market. The SUV which will sit above the GLA will come into two configurations – five-seater and a larger seven-seater version. With this new SUV, Mercedes will target at providing a versatile and bigger option for family car customers. The GLB SUV is developed from the GLB Concept that was showcased at Shanghai Motor Show in April. Under the production form, the GLB is expected to be mostly identical to the concept car apart from some small styling updates. In line with the design of the G-class range, the GLB will feature the boxy style with short overhangs along with new Multibeam LED headlight design.

Mercedes-Benz GLB is underpinned by the MFA II architecture. Dimensionally, the GLA is 4,634 mm long, 1,834mm wide and 1,658 mm high. Compared with the smaller GLA, it is larger by 21mm, 56mm, and 20mm, respectively. With the long wheelbase of 2,829 mm, Mercedes-Benz is confident that the GLB, in the five-seat configuration, could provide the best-in-class headroom for the front seats and rear legroom.

Inside the cabin, the GLB features Mercedes-Benz’s single-panel cockpit spreading across the dashboard. The widescreen cockpit functions as an instrument cluster as well as the infotainment system. In the seven-seater version, the rear row is foldable, allowing easy entry.

Mercedes-Benz GLB will debut on the global market with over four models

On the global market, the Mercedes GLB will be available with four models. Apart from the top-spec diesel GLB 220d 4Matic with the four-wheel-drive system, the rest will come with the standard front-wheel drive. The GLB comes with two petrol engines and one diesel motor. The petrol line-up includes the turbo 1.3-litre unit (GLB 200) and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit (GLB 250). The only 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel comes into two states of tunes, 150 BHP for the GLB 200d and 190 BHP for the GLB 220d 4Matic. The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission comes as standard on the GLB 200 while other trims, including GLB 250, GLB 200d and GLB 220 4matic gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The GLB 220 4Matic is offered with Off-road Engineering Package as an option. Features on this package include Multibeam LED headlights, hill-assist and multiple driving modes. The production of the GLB will take place in various locations across the world. Mercedes GLB launch is likely for India market at the starting price of around Rs 40 lakh.
