Mercedes, BMW To Share Future Platform

Two world-renowned automotive giant, Mercedes and BMW are in process to jointly develop an EV platform for the future automotive industry.

Daimler AG which is the parent company of the celebrated luxury brand, Mercedes-Benz is in conversation with BMW for the mutual development of a new Electric vehicle platform in the coming years. It is considered to be an ease to the fierce competition between two firms since 1959.

Confronted with the challenges in greener mobility solutions, two arch rivals from Germany appears to join hands to work closely together in terms of electric vehicle development. The automotive world is watching a paradigm shift to greener mobility due to the alarming level of pollution. It appears to be necessary to make an action to work on the full potential electric vehicle segment. Those companies were conscious to depreciate their profit targets this year for the trade tensions and put more attention on the R&D of the vehicles, especially in the electrification. By cooperatively building an all-new electric platform, both companies can benefit as they get a similar plan of adding more 10 to 12 electric vehicles to the production line within the next few years. The expense for research and development is obviously high. Mercedes and BMW can save a huge amount of money from the R&D costs accordingly.

The likes of this cooperation are not unusual. In reality, BMW has paired with the commendable Japanese carmaker for the Supra project and in discussion with Ford and Volkswagen to conjointly develop autonomous vehicles. Meanwhile, Daimler also joins hand with Nissan and Renault for the engine sharing. Thus, the possibility of the BMW-Mercedes teamwork is vividly enormous under the current market conditions.
