Mercedes has relaunched the E Class E350 d with a more powerful engine. The new model is available in Elite trim only.

Last year, Mercedes discontinued the Mercedes E Class E350 d. A year later, the German auto giant has relaunched this variant with a new engine option.

Mercedes E Class E350 d will return with a more powerful performance

Before it went into discontinuation, the E Class E350 d was powered by the OM 642 V6 3.0-litre diesel engine. This BSIV engine was capable of unleashing a top power of 258 PS and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. On returning to the market, the Mercedes E Class 350d receives power from a new diesel engine which is the OM 656 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder oil burner.

Compared to the old engine, the new unit is more powerful, making a maximum power of 286 PS and peak torque of 600 Nm. As a result, the new E 350 d variant can deliver a more impressive performance with the 0-100 kmph acceleration of 5.7 seconds against the previous 6.6-second record. Of course, this new engine is in line with the new BSVI emission norms. The 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission has been carried over from the earlier car.

The new engine setting not only conforms to the new BSVI emission norms but also steps ahead of its time and meets the requirement of the future Real Driving Emission norm which is scheduled to go into effect in April 2023. It also means that it is unlikely that Mercedes will introduce an updated version of the E Class in the next 3 years or even more. To become more environment-friendly, the OM 656 unit adopts a new extended emission control system which comprises of a DPF (diesel particulate filter), close-coupled NOX storage catalytic converter, and an additional SCR catalyst.
