MG Gloster (Toyota Fortuner Rival) Teased Ahead of Launch

MG Motors just released a new teaser for the upcoming SUV MG Gloster. The new Gloster will get some segment-first segment features.

MG Motors made it to the Indian market last year with the launch of the MG Hector. Within one year after its entrance to the market, MG has introduced two more vehicles, including the Hector Plus and the ZS EV. The car company will soon add a new vehicle to its line-up. Recently, MG has teased of the upcoming MG Gloster ahead of its launch in the local car market.

In the teaser video, it is revealed that the MG Gloster will get autonomous parking as well as emergency stop and collision avoidance system. It should be noted that MG Gloster will be the first car in the segment to offer these driver assistance functions. According to the available information, the Gloster will be underpinned by a ladder-frame chassis developed by MG. The new full-size SUV will measure at 5,005 mm, 1,932 mm and 1,875 mm in length, width and height, respectively. The wheelbase of this SUV will be 2,950 mm long.

Earlier this year, MG showcased the new Gloster at the Auto Expo 2020 in a near-production form, which gave us some important clues of the final version. It is likely that MG Gloster will get LED headlights with DRLs, foglights with chrome surround, chrome-garnished octagonal grille and heavily sculptured front end design. Other highlights of the exterior include dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome-finished window line, chrome-garnished door handles, LED taillight and roof rails.

MG Gloster Teaser Revealed Ahead of Launch

Even though the exterior of the near-production MG Gloster was fully revealed at the motor show, the interior remains to be a secret. However, it is expected that MG will equip the Gloster will a long list of comfort and convenience features. The upcoming flagship SUV is likely to get the i-Smart connectivity system that allows the users to voice-control the operation of the Gloster.

Under the hood, the MG Gloser will come with two choices of engines, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. Mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the petrol engine churns out the top power of 224 PS and 360 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel engine with 8-speed automatic gearbox produces 217 PS and 480 Nm of maximum power and torque.

MG Gloster will face competition from other full-sized SUVs like Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Altura G4. Considering the size and the engine options, the MG Gloster will have a clear advantage over the aforementioned models but one can safely expect the Gloster to cost a bit more than the immediate adversaries.
