MG Hector Launch Date Confirmed, Production Begins Ahead of Schedule

MG Motor confirmed that the launch of the MG Hector will be in May. The new SUV will rival models like Mahindra XUv500, Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier

Previously, the MG Hector was being expected to debut in June. However, recently, it has been reported that MG Motor has proceeded the schedule and started the production before the originally planned date. As a result, the MG Hector launch date will be pushed forward, and the new model is now headed for a launch in May instead of June.

MG Motor too over GM India's plant in Halol in September 2017. After that, it took another 16 months to refurbish the plant, as revealed by P Balendran, Executive Director, MG Motor India to IndianAutosBlog. It was stated earlier that the production will start in April, but in fact, it has already kicked off. MG's first premium SUV promises to bring in a segment-leading connectivity experience. As revealed by MG Motor recently, the new model will have many connectivity functions. A 10.4-inch portrait touchscreen will take the centre stage on the dashboard and will be offer access to these features.

MG Hector will be offered with two engine options- 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel. The petrol engine makes 143 bhp and 250 Nm. It is available with two gearbox options, 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Also, this petrol engine will come along with an optional 48V mild hybrid technology. With the mild hybrid system in hand, the fuel mileage could be raised by 12 per cent compared with the original petrol engine. It also contributes 20 Nm more to the overall torque output.

The diesel engine of the MG Hector will be shared with the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. This engine is expected to put out 173 bhp and 350 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission will come as standard, while an optional 6-speed automatic will be launched at a later date. With the MG Hector, MG Motor is expecting to reach a high level of localization, at around 75 per cent, which will help it to keep the price in check. At launch, MG Hector will compete with Jeep Compass. Mahindra XU300, Tata Harrier.
