Based on the China-spec Baojun 530, MG Hector has been a huge success in India. The car has reportedly gained over 50,000 bookings within merely 8 months of its launch. To capitalise on that momentum and to appeal to a wider audience, MG will be bringing out the new Hector Plus to the Indian market. The regular Hector, you might be aware, is a 5-seater SUV. There is a demand for 6- and 7-seater vehicles in the market, which is why the ‘Plus’ version will be added to the company’s line-up soon.

The exterior is slightly redesigned, with changes mostly limited to the front fascia and the tail-end of the car. The LED DRLs have been redesigned, as is the front grille, front bumper, and the fog-lamp housings. As for the rear, the taillamp design will remain unchanged, but the rear bumper and tailgate might see some refreshed details. The dimensions, including the wheelbase, will remain the same, even with the inclusion of two additional seats in the rear.

As for the specifications, the MG Hector Plus is expected to offer two engine options, the same as the regular Hector. The first is a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 143 PS and 250 Nm on tap. It comes paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The manual variant is also available with a 48V mild-hybrid system onboard. The second is a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 170 PS and 350 Nm.

MG Hector Plus spied once again

Prices of the Hector Plus are expected to begin at Rs. 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India), while the launch is expected to happen around June 2020. Other than that, MG is also planning to launch the Gloster SUV in India. The MG Gloster is essentially a rebadged version of Maxus D90. Maxus is a Chinese brand that specialises in pickup trucks and SUVs, and the D90 is their full-size SUV offering. It is even larger than the Toyota Fortuner!
