The MG Hector will be officially unveiled later today. The new model isn't too far from making its market debut and will rival the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. Recently, the SUV was spotted in Candolim, Goa by our friend Clayton Crasto.

While the MG Hector is based on the Baojun 530, it has been altered a fair bit in terms of the exterior styling. As seen in the images of the vehicle that has been spotted, the front-end is equipped with features such as projector headlights with DRLs. Moreover, there are also turn indicators positioned on the top and twin-pod main lights in the centre. Along the body of the vehicle is a great amount of chrome garnish, faux skid plates and the 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, it comes with dynamic turn indicators and taillights which remind us a lot of those on the Audi Q5.

Based on the Baojun 530, the MG Hector comes with a mildly redesigned exterior.

This MG Hector that has been spotted seems to be in the top-of-the-line trim. The British auto manufacturer has confirmed to equip the cabin of the SUV with a 10.4 inch iSMART Next Gen touchscreen infotainment setup with an eSIM, a 7-inch MID, a 360-degree camera and a panoramic sunroof. The MG Hector is available with numerous connectivity features, which are one of the SUV’s unique selling points.

The MG Hector will be powered by two engine options, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor and an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel unit. While the former can deliver a maximum power of 143 hp and a peak torque of 250 Nm, the latter is good for 173 hp against 350 Nm. The transmission duties on the petrol variants are undertaken by a 6-speed MT gearbox or a 6-speed DCT unit. On the other hand, the power on the diesel ones is supplied to the wheels via a 6-speed MT gearbox. Moreover, a first-in-segment 48-volt mild-hybrid system will be available for the petrol motor for an enhanced fuel mileage and a lag-free performance.

Mass production of the MG Hector has already begun at the company’s Gujarat-based Halol plant. Thanks to the heavy localization, the MG Hector is expected to be aggressively priced at its launch. The British automaker has also been reported to have plans to invest more than Rs 5,000 crore in enhancing its annual capacity from 80,000 units to 200,000 units in the next five or six years.

The MG Hector will be the first product by MG for the Indian auto market. Projected to be launched in June this year, this SUV is expected to be priced in the range of INR 15 lakh to INR 20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) to compete against the Jeep Compass and the Tata Harrier. MG Motor has started the inauguration of up to 50 dealerships with 120 touchpoints across India for the launch of the long-awaited SUV and its future vehicles in India.
