MG Motor India Registers 77 Percent Growth in 2020

2020 finally came to an end. It has been an eventful year for the whole world. In India, the national lockdown has severely affected all the aspects of the economic, including the automotive market. Fortunately, since the lockdown was removed, we have seen positive signals from the car market. Last month, most of the car brands in the market saw positive growth in a year-on-year sales comparison. MG Motor, in particular, has seen a significant sales growth of 77 percent.

Debuted in 2019, MG Motor is among the young car brands in the market. Within two years, MG has launched four vehicles in the market including the MG Hector, MG Gloster, MG ZS EV and MG Hector Plus. According to a sales report, last month, the company received over 5,000 bookings for the Hector and 200 for the ZS EV.

December was also the month with the highest monthly sales in 2020 for MG Motor India. MG Motor sold 4,010 units last month while that number in December 2019 was 3,021 units. It means a year-on-year growth of 13.53 percent. MG Hector contributed to the majority of the MG Motor's total sales with 3,430 units sold last month. Coming next is the MG Gloster with total monthly sales of 458 units. The ZS EV came third with 122 units sold.

In 2020, MG Motor has accumulated the total sales of around 28,000 units, which is 77 percent higher than that of 2019. MG Hector was reported to register a yearly sales of 15,930 units last year. In the same year, MG sold 1,243 units of ZS EV.

MG Gloster is the newest car model to enter the line-up. Till date, the Gloster has garnered over 3,000 bookings. In the last two months, 1,085 units have been sold. It is expected that in 2020, MG Gloster will post a significant growth after MG Motor ramps up the production for this model.

In the following year, MG is planning to expand its line-up with several new launches, for example, MG Plus 7-seater, MG Hector Savvy Variant 4x4, and ZS Petrol. It is aimed to increase sales by 70 and 80 percent.
