MG Motor’s new sedan will come to challenge some models in the sedan segment like Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra.
After the successful start of the first MG’s connected SUV for India, MG Motor is contemplating expanding its horizon with the executive sedan segment. According to a recent report, MG Motor is bringing to its pavilion at the Auto Expo 2020 a large sedan that is expected to go on sale at a time in 2021.
Based on the RC roader, the new MG sedan will not follow the conventional route as other sedans in India do. The all-new car will features a coupe-like roof along with a high ground clearance of up to 180 mm while keeping the traditional three-box design layout of a sedan. The new MG car might take some inspirations from the Volvo S60 Cross Country – a crossover-like sedan once available in our market.
The front face of the sedan might be quite similar to the MG Hector with a similarly-styled grille and air intakes. The rear end turns out to be simple and clean. The coupe-like design of the car is more transparent when looking at the side profiles of the vehicle. It is sure to make the new sedan more enticing to look at.
The upcoming five-seater sedan by MG is said to be loaded to the gills with a long equipment list, thus maintaining the reputation of MG cars in India. It is expected to come with an array of segment-first features as well. The interior of the car should be technologically advanced with a dual-screen layout as seen on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Apart from the 180 mm of the ground clearance, the MG sedan will measure a wheelbase of 2800 mm, making it a sedan with the longest wheelbase in the category. Engine-wise, the upcoming MG car will be featured with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine as found under the Hector’s bonnet but it might be tweaked to suit the sedan. Expect MG to price its new sedan quite aggressively to make rival the likes of Hyundai Elantra, Honda Civic and more.
